Man charged with enticing minors at Hingham beach

A homeless man was arrested this week in Hingham for allegedly approaching two children at a town beach, police said Thursday.

Benjamin Hirtle, 27, approached two children under age 16 at Bathing Beach last Thursday, and allegedly asked them to perform a sex act, Hingham police said in a statement.

The minors reported the incident to police, the statement said.

Investigators identified Hirtle as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for him. He was arrested and arraigned on Tuesday in Hingham District Court, police said.

Court records list a former Hingham address for Hirtle, but state that he is currently homeless.

Pleas of not guilty to the charges were entered on his behalf, court records show. He was released on personal recognizance, but ordered to stay away from the victims and the beach area, records state.
